The Optimists Open Junior Bonspiel got off to a great start Friday night with some exciting, and close games. Bhadra Sthankiya’s Brampton rink took Andrew Clayton of the Brant Curling Club to an extra end before losing to the hammer. Ethan McVety’s Oakville foursome gave up 4 in the first end against Amanda Gates’s Idylwylde Junior women, but clawed back to steal the point in the eighth and win 6:5. The games between Inouye and O’Neill; Leslie and Van Huyse; and McDonald and Morphet were all decided by single points.
The “Hot Shots” competition followed this first round of curling, and the 4 top teams (2 from the Optimist Open, and a men’s and ladies team from the Prime Invitational) will go head to head tomorrow night for bragging rights as to which team has the best shot makers, this year.
Congratulations to the volunteers (Gord Parker, Ken Johnson, Wendy Parker, Heather McVety, Don Reddick, Amberle Bocsy, and Nicki Theriault-Bocsy) who are working very hard to make this weekend event run so smoothly, and appear so effortless. Check the scoreboards for the latest updates.
